Craig C. Daniel

Craig Daniel is a partner and co-founder of Gluck Daniel Atkinson. Craig has been litigating commercial and real estate matters in state and federal courts and arbitrations since 2000.

Craig spent the first decade of his legal career at Cooley LLP, where he represented startups, venture and private equity funds, and Fortune 200 companies in high-dollar, bet-the-company litigation. At Cooley, Craig stood toe-to-toe with the nation’s best litigators and learned to advocate for demanding clients in high-pressure situations. Craig’s peers and clients recognized him as an effective advocate, negotiator, and counselor.

Commercial Litigation
Craig represents startups and established companies, venture and private equity funds, and entrepreneurs in a variety of industries including technology, healthcare, venture capital, and consumer products.

In the recent past, Craig has handled co-founder disputes over equity and control of a startup; SEC and Department of Labor investigations of a group of venture funds; breaches of multi-million dollar contracts for investment banking services, smart home devices, and online messaging services; insurance coverage disputes; and accusations of fraud and fraudulent conveyance.

Real Estate Disputes
Craig represents property owners and commercial tenants in disputes over leases, purchase and sale contracts, and other complex real estate transactions.

Craig lives with his husband in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood. When not running a law firm, Craig can be found throwing a ball with his dog Elton, exploring California backcountry, and cooking cajun food.

Matthew J. Gluck

With more than twenty years as a litigator focused on California state court matters, arbitrations, and federal court matters, Matthew Gluck is an experienced trial lawyer knowledgeable in a broad range of practice areas, focusing on real estate disputes and business disputes.

Within the area of real estate disputes, Matt focuses on

  • Purchase and sale disputes, including non-disclosure disputes
  • Commercial landlord-tenant matters
  • Co-ownership disputes, including partition actions for forced sale by a co-owner
  • Adjoining landowner disputes, including property line disputes, easements, nuisances, and other property owner matters
  • Construction defect matters on behalf of landowners
  • Property transaction disputes, including lease option disputes, refusals to perform, and other disputes arising from intended transactions or consummated transactions


Within the area of business disputes, Matt’s broad experiences include:

  • Co-founder and co-owner disputes, including early- and mid-stage technology companies, as well as brick and mortar companies
  • Business contract disputes, including supplier/vendor/contractor disputes
  • Business torts including fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, interference with contract or prospective economic advantage, and other business torts
  • Corporate governance matters and dissolution matters (including Corporations Code section 2000 buyouts)
  • Partnership disputes governed by the 1994 Revised Uniform Partnership Act (RUPA)


Through highly principled practice, Matt establishes and maintains credibility with judges, juries, clients and counsel, a practice that is both strategic and highly ethical. This helps keep costs down through the course of litigation by minimizing needless contentiousness, and helps obtain excellent outcomes in court, whether in motion practice or at trial.

When not practicing law or running a law firm, Matt can usually be found at his home in San Anselmo, hiking, mountain biking, or walking Lucy The Dog in the open spaces in the area, running his homebrewing rig, the smoker, or both at the same time (bliss), or locked in fierce competition with his wife Lisa on the battleground of Boggle, Scrabble, or other games.

Gordon C. Atkinson

Gordon C. Atkinson is a partner and senior counsel at Gluck Daniel Atkinson, having joined the firm in January 2017, following a more than thirty-year tenure at Cooley LLP, where he was the partner in charge of the firm’s San Francisco litigation department and previously served on the firm’s management committee.

Gordon’s practice centers on complex business litigation in a variety of settings, including the representation of technology and other clients in securities litigation, venture capital, licensing and intellectual property disputes. At Cooley, Gordon was the co-founder of the firm’s Venture Capital litigation group, and he has worked on more than 50 disputes and/or litigation matters involving both venture capital and more mature private equity fund disputes. Gordon has tried cases involving mergers and acquisitions, software licensing, tax fraud, venture capital funding, and other contract disputes, as well as a dispute involving the ownership of patent rights involving medical devices. He has represented software clients in multiple state and federal courts and in arbitrations over the use of proprietary information.

Gordon has represented insurers and insureds in disputes under many different types of insurance policies, including trial and pretrial proceedings in a variety of complex coverage actions. He has also represented clients in multiple aspects of environmental law, including the defense of civil, criminal and regulatory proceedings, specializing in matters involving the remediation, sale or development of contaminated property and the regulation of hazardous materials.

Gordon has been consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in America for his commercial litigation, environmental litigation, intellectual property litigation and securities regulation work. He is also annually listed in Super Lawyers.

Prior to joining Cooley LLP, Gordon was with Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance) in New York. At Rogers & Wells, his litigation practice focused on the areas of First Amendment (defamation) and commodities and securities fraud.

Gordon received a JD at the University of Chicago Law School in 1981. He served as a founder, and later president, of the Chicago Law Foundation. He also served as a student attorney in the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic, where he successfully tried a race and gender discrimination trial before an administrative law judge. He completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University, where he graduated, cum laude, with a BA in Government in 1977.

Gordon is a member of the bars of the states of California and New York, the Ninth, Eighth and Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a member of the American and the San Francisco bar associations.

In addition to the practice of law, Gordon was formerly an adjunct professor of environmental law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He was previously the president of the Board of Directors for Sunny Hills Services, a non-profit organization working with abused and neglected children. He also served as an officer on the Board of Trustees for the San Francisco Day School.

When not working, Gordon enjoys playing golf at the Presidio Golf Course, where he sits on the Board of Directors of the Players Club (he is former President of that Board). He also enjoys cooking, listening to the blues, and watching the SF Giants, as well as kayaking, and other outdoor activities.

Justin Sowa

Justin Sowa is a partner with experience in a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, securities litigation, trade secret litigation, and general business disputes. Since joining Gluck Daniel in 2018, Justin has expanded his practice to include real estate litigation.

Prior to joining Gluck Daniel Atkinson, Justin spent five years at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in their New York and San Francisco offices, where he represented clients including Fortune 100 companies and leading private equity funds in a wide range of commercial disputes in court and private arbitration and mediation. His practice also included bankruptcy litigation and internal investigations and white collar defense. He has provided pro bono representation to individuals in employment, housing, immigration, and appellate criminal cases. He has extensive experience litigating in state and federal courts in California, New York, and Delaware.

At Gluck Daniel Atkinson, Justin has represented individuals and businesses, including software start-ups, in contract disputes, close corporation governance disputes, and other commercial matters. He has also represented buyers and sellers of real estate in nondisclosure and other real property contract cases.

A native of Massachusetts, Justin graduated first in his class from Brooklyn Law School in 2012, where he was a member of the Brooklyn Law Review. He received an undergraduate degree in Music Business from New York University in 2007.

Justin has been happily resettled in Oakland since 2014 and in his spare time can usually be found riding his bicycle in the East Bay hills, at the movie theater, taking in a musical performance, or rooting for his beloved Boston Celtics.

Charlie Chou

Charlie Chou is a partner and trial attorney with over fifteen-years of litigation experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in every kind of high-stakes commercial dispute. His clients include Fortune 500 companies, start-ups, and individuals in a broad range of industries and technologies. Before joining Gluck Daniel Atkinson LLP, Charlie practiced law at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP and other boutique litigation firms in the Bay Area.

Charlie earned a B.A from the University of Southern California and graduated magna cum laude and as a member of the Order of the Coif and the Thurston Society from U.C. College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly U.C. Hastings). He was also the recipient of a full academic scholarship at both USC and U.C. College of the Law, San Francisco.

In his free time, Charlie enjoys good food, exploration, and the company of old friends.

Brenda Martinez-Eby

Brenda Martinez-Eby is an accomplished legal assistant and paralegal at Gluck Daniel Atkinson. Brenda has over 20 years experience assisting litigators in California state and federal courts. In addition to her invaluable litigation support tasks, Brenda also keeps the office running efficiently and effectively (and fully stocked with snacks).

Prior to joining Gluck Daniel Atkinson in 2019, Ms. Martinez-Eby worked at several San Francisco-based law firms, primarily handling personal injury, construction defect, and insurance defense law. Brenda is a San Francisco native and in her spare time enjoys listening to music, playing with Buddy, her Sheltie/Pit Bull doggy, and rooting for her San Francisco 49ers.
